AskForAnswer – Just Ask It
With AskForAnswer, you can ask questions from anywhere at anytime, and you can get answers from your friends (conversational) or experts (educational). Your questions are not limited to knowledge-based ones, you can also ask very personal and conversational questions such as “Has anyone watched the movie Paranormal Activity?” (to all friends) and “Would you like to have a lunch together at Pizza Hut this Sunday?” (to a particular friend).
Build by a team of 14-15 years old wonder kids, AskForAnswer is really interesting to try.
I. Landing Page
What an amazing landing page, I truly could not believe my eyes. Imagining some 15 years old teenagers is the main people behind this design is somewhat devastating to me, since I’m already in the middle of my 20’s (plus one) and I still couldn’t manage my self to make something as beautiful as that.
There are two methods for registration, one is manual and the other is by using Facebook connect. Let’s try the Facebook connect one .
II. Dashboard
The dashboard is pretty simple I might say. There’s an annoying box that will not disappear not until you done all the things they asked you to do. But when I already done all the things they want me to do, the box is still there, perhaps I need one following to see the timeline of people whom I followed.
III. Features
Now let’s move out and test their main features, asking. You can start asking simply by just filling out the ask a question today input box. Let’s try by asking for users view of Anggackt.
AskForAnswer also supported targeted question to a certain friend, although they missed out the close button when the select a friend for question window popped-up. I don’t have any friend on my list right now, so I can’t really test the functionality of this feature but looking at the structure of the targeted question work flow, I assume that currently AskForAnswer doesn’t yet support ask question to a group of friends feature.
You could also add some detail to the overall question to make your question clearer to other users.
Once done you will be redirected to your question page. You could also add a tag to this page to make sure that users who tag their profile with the same tag could find your question easily.
You also can share your question through Facebook and Twitter or just push that question to a friend of yours. Don’t worry about the push to a friend pop-upped window, this time there’s a cancel link available to close the window.
Answering a question is as simple as clicking the answer button. You could also voted for the answer given by any user by giving them a star or throw them an egg. The most voted answer will be visible on the question page summary.
There are still some kinks left though. For an example, You could easily click users who use manual registration gravatar image to see their AskForAnswer profile and start asking them direct question or start following them while clicking the Facebook connect user would redirect you to their Facebook profile page. I do prefer if clicking any user avatar would bring me to their AskForAnswer profile rather than goes to their Facebook page.
IV. Verdict
AskForAnswer is genius concept created by genius teenagers. It almost shares the same function as Yahoo!Answer but without the stupidity of Yahoo! answer community guidelines who thinks a question is only based on Wh-based phrase and of course, currently, without those affiliate marketers disguised link which again, passed the completely full of hole community guidelines.
Please note that AskForAnswer is different from Onioning. Just imagine AskForAnswer as a full blog while Onioning serves the micro-blog market with it’s extremely simple and easy to understand interface. But hey, they could compete in a healthy competition right ?
Update : The timeline is now available and the annoying box now have completely gone
