Youtego is a new visual tool for self-visualization in the Internet. The process of self-visualization in Youtego is a combination of semantics (word, phrase) and its visual representation (picture, photo), that you define and select-crop all by yourself. Ultimately, you get the combination or matrix of visual objects that you personally defined and visualized. That combination is younique, because you are unique. However the elements of that matrix (Tegos) may match with people’s Tegos anywhere in the world.

I. Landing Page

I’m in love with YouTego’s landing page. There’s still no registration available for now since YouTego is still in private beta. But if you do lucky enough to get the invitation, you could start registering your YouTego account manually since there’s no integrated sign-up.

II. Dashboard

Welcome to your dashboard. You could see your Tego-sets in there in which you have to edit to start experiencing Tego. You could click edit profile to give your Tego profile a shorter URL.

III. Features

Let’s try to edit the first Tego-set and you will be presented with a nice interface for editing your profile. You could change your icon by using the provided icon library, uploading your own picture or by using either Picasa search or Flickr search. And as usual, transparent PNG rendering is messed up too in YouTego.

No Depok, Indonesia in the city selection, and how come Jakarta becomes Jakar,Indonesia ?

Next, just add the thing you know in the I know Tego-set. Start by adding a Tego in it along with the Icon, for an example, I Know .. Music. You could add more Tegos later on.

After that, try to add an expression in it, the end result will looks like this :

There’s a commenting system available for each and every shared expression for a nice and good interaction between you and your friends.

Just do the same thing with the other Tego-sets and you are done. One thing noted, If you upload a picture in a Tego, let’s say picture of people swimming and tag it under Swim Tego, the next time a user add a Tego with a Swimming Tag, your uploaded/chosen picture will showed up automatically.You could also add your own story for every Tego-sets.

You could add more Tego-sets if you would like to, but I think I’ll pass for this time being since it took really long for each page to load for me.

Next testing out the interaction feature with your friends. At this point, I’m asking  for a help from my fiancee.

You could add a Tego on your friend’s profile page to describe them along with an Icon , and of course, your targeted friend should approve it first before your Tego appeared on his/her page.

You could check all of outgoing and incoming Tegos from the I Tego-Sets.

IV. Verdict

YouTego’s private beta status doesn’t mean that this service is not ready for a public release. I find that YouTego, although hard to understand at first, is pretty much easy to navigate and doesn’t take a steep learning curve to understand the work-flow or concept. For me, YouTego is a visualized Youniqe social networking.
