Information is Beautiful
This is not a webware, but Information is Beautiful is as beautiful as its name. What is Information is beautiful ? It’s a blog. Yes, a blog with thousands of knowledge in it, serves in beautifully drawn graphic.
So who is the author ? it is David McCandless. Here is some information about him taken from his about page.
I’m David McCandless, a London-based author, writer and designer. I’ve written for The Guardian, Wired and others. I’m into anything strange and interesting.
These days I’m an independent visual & data journalist. A passion of mine is for visualizing information – facts, data, ideas, subjects, issues, statistics, questions – all with the minimum of words.
I’m interested in how designed information can help us understand the world, cut through BS and reveal hidden connections, patterns and stories underneath. Or, failing that, it can just look cool!
My pet-hate is pie charts. Love pie. Hate pie-charts.
I’m still in awe for his writings. A very well structured English along with a brief explanation and a chart. That’s why this time, I dedicated this review just for “Information is Beautiful” . Please note that I’m and David McCandless is not related in any way. He doesn’t know me and I only know him for his awesome writings at his blog. THIS IS NOT A PAID REVIEW.
I. Landing Page
He chose a simple designed theme which I like very much. With this well chosen theme, reading his article is like heaven without any distraction from flashy things. Think of it as reading in silent at the library, total heaven.
II. Writings
His writing is often accompanied by a lovely made chart, for an example is his article about which sex conquered the social networking websites. The chart is very well made it’s making my jaw dropped for a few minutes.
Another jaw dropping chart is his article on how to reduce your chances of dying in a Plane Crash. I already guessed about this before, Garuda Indonesia is mentioned in one of the worst safety record airlines company in the world. But unbelievably (thanks to his blog), now I know that Aeroflot is the #1 worst in the world.
Don’t worry about citations or respectable source for his chart, he gave a detail list of from where he got all the information for his chart.
III. Verdict
I don’t know how should I put it, but I can give you one word for “Information is Beautiful” : Beautiful.
I just hope that David McCandless keeps on writing so that I can read a whole lot more about interesting fact in the world. Please support his writings in any way you can. Information is Beautiful now resides firmly on my bookmark list and David McCandless, you are my hero for a reason I won’t state in Anggackt :)
