Return My Pants – Track Your Stuff
Where is my CD ? Where the hell is my Boxers ? is something probably you said when you have a lot of friends who always endlessly borrowing your stuff. Okay, there are some desktop solution to cataloging you CDs Collection, but what about other stuff ? Pants maybe ? Return My Pants is here to help you out.
I.Landing Page
Uh…. the landing page is pretty much so so. Fast to load but the font selection for “Are You..” , “Lending” and “Borrowing” is well….hideous. I don’t like it at all, period.
To start using Return My Pants is pretty straight forward and easy. If you are lending your stuff to someone else, just click lending. And if you are borrowing stuff from your friend, just click borrowing (which is likely to be less clicked than lending). This page also serves the main purpose for registration.
The open ended features of Return My Pants is useful if you are generous enough to lend something or if you are shameless enough to borrow something indefinitely.
II.Dashboard
Once you are done with the registration and your first lending/borrowing stuff, you will be redirected to the dashboard which is 100 times better than the landing page. You can edit the item you lend/borrow , delete it and add a picture on it.
What else ? nothing else to do here, so let’s go check and see the email notice my fiancee got when I registered and inputted her name as the borrower and also check the send email notification features to her.
The resulting mail sent to her is nothing but a notification that I’m tracking things with Return My Pants with a link to her that she can click. At first we thought the link serves a purpose as a notification page for what stuff that I’m lending to her. Unfortunately, It is a semi-registration page, where she can input her chosen password and get directly to her borrowed page, WITH A DELETE BUTTON ON IT , this could be extremely prone for intended manipulation without moderation for both parties (this doesn’t apply for single user borrowed stuff tracking of course). Yes, you got an email notification if someone deleted the tracked stuff, but there is no chance to retrieve the deleted data.
This is a service with a nice idea on it, but unfortunately, the ability to delete things sporadically without confirmation from both parties can result to intended manipulation. It would be much better if there is a confirmation first from both parties along with a comment box so that both parties could discuss and communicate if there is a problem in the stuff tracking (Of course , this doesn’t apply if you are just single tracking your borrowed stuff, you could delete the stuff in anyway you wanted to, a reciprocal user list features maybe ? ).
An archive to archive all historical data of lent/borrowed stuff would be a great addition too. For the time being, Return My Pants could be used as a personal stuff tracking for lending stuff, just don’t let your friends know that you are tracking things you lend them.
In my opinion, Return My Pants works great for tracking borrowed stuff, especially from a library/DVDs Rental/Car Rental where late return could give you a nice fine from your wallet. Track those thing with Return My Pants, to save your daily lunch.
