Tsoni is an online translation based on Google translate engine. My first impression was “What?” , what’s the point of making an online translator tools based on an already mature online translation engine ? But then again, I was proven wrong.

I. Landing Page

Landing Page

The landing page is very simple and shows directly what Tsoni function is. You don’t have to wait for eternity for Tsoni to load. It’s just plain simple and shows what Tsoni function is.

II. Features

What makes Tsoni different from Google translate own page is that Tsoni automatically detect the source language and no drop-down list on Tsoni, just click in which language you want it to be translated.

Yes, Google translate also have the feature to detect the source language, but the drop-down list navigation sometimes making my computer semi-illiterate friend having some trouble. The example case is when he tried to translate Portuguese to Indonesia. He didn’t know that the language the tried to translate is Portuguese, so he just paste it into Google translate, and he didn’t even notice the “Detect Language” Google translate provide, thanks to the drop down list navigation.

I know, it sounds unbelievable, but that’s what really happened. And Tsoni provide an alternative for him, just paste it, and choose the designated language, without any button press, and Tsoni will parsed the source language automatically to Google Translate, as simple as that.

Tsoni is a good alternative for a more user friendly interface for Google Translate. At first I find it as useless, but then I realized the real function of Tsoni when my computer semi-illiterate friend tried to use it, and said “It is much better than Google translate” without knowing that Tsoni is infact powered by Google Translate. If only Tsoni provide a whole page translation just like Google Translate, then it will be more interesting to use, especially for those who finds that Google Translate hard to navigate. (I still can’t believe myself knowing that there is exist someone who finds Google Translate hard to navigate)
