Tik.la – Just Short

September 16th, 2009 — 2:56pm | Author : Anangga Pratama

There has been so many URL shortening service these days. Some of them died, some of them managed to lived through the URL shortening competition hell.

And now, another new service emerged, Tik.la. With just a basic feature, URL shortening, without any add-on like click analytic, how do they performed in the competition hell ? I’m going to try to find out, how’s Tik.la overall performance in my own honest opinion.

Tik.la Landing Page

As you can already see, Tik.la landing page is a heaven sent. But, the simplicity doesn’t mean faster loading time. Tik.la took longer to load then I initially thought with my super extra low internet connection. This is the first time in my review that I feel frustrated with a URL shortening app loading time. Maybe this is just me.

So let’s try to shortened a URL and compare it with the arguably most known URL shortening service, bit.ly.

Real URL : http://anggackt.com/2009/09/16/fontcapture-create-a-font/ (57 Characters)

bit.ly : http://bit.ly/mpsDC (19 Characters)

tik.la : http://tik.la/3a (16 Characters)

Well, it is shorter than bit.ly, but one can not count this into account since there is a theoretical limit on how much page could be shortened using n trailing characters.

All in all, Tik.la offers a new breeze in the URL shortening competition with a pretty much shorter URL in it. But for me,  tr.im is still my main one , and url4.eu from RSS2Twitter also *they don’t have any option for other service, that’s why*
