Pingdom, Test Your Loading Time

August 31st, 2009 — 10:09pm | Author : Anangga Pratama

I sometimes wonder how’s the performance of my front page loading time. Whether it is too slow or just your average loading time.

Thanks to this post , I’ve been able to know how is my website loading performance for the front page or specified page.  The service called it self Pingdom.

A load time between 1-6 seconds is considered good according to webtrickz. I don’t know where that claim came from, but it seems pretty valid in my point of view.

One thing that made me pretty much in questions is, we knew that the loading time of each page is really affected by your current internet connection. So, what is the default speed of Pingdom ? or is it using our own Connection Speed ?

Here is one explanation by Pingdom that doesn’t mention the measuring connection speed :

The Full Page Test loads a complete HTML page including all objects (images, CSS, JavaScripts, RSS, Flash and frames/iframes). It mimics the way a page is loaded in a web browser.

The load time of all objects is shown visually with time bars.

You can view the list of objects either in load order or as a hierarchy. The hierarchy view allows you to see which objects are linked to in for example a CSS file.

Every test also shows general statistics about the loaded page such as the total number of objects, total load time, and size including all objects.

Note: This version doesn’t load objects included in JavaScripts. We have also put a limit on the number and size of the objects that are loaded (to prevent the tool from downloading movies, for example).

Another question rises, if it is indeed using our current  connection speed, does the cache saved in the browser affecting the load time too ? I’m not a tech-savvy, that’s why this question arises on my mind.

Either way, this is a very good service for you who curious about your site loading speed. Or just as a bragging tools about how successful you are in optimizing your own site speed loading.
