Untiny Those Tiny URL

August 30th, 2009 — 8:33pm | Author : Anangga Pratama

The main reason why the URL shortening service available to use is to shorten those long URL into an easy, short URL for posting purpose or a footnote source for article written in a magazine/newspaper.

But, alas, some people started to use the services for another purpose. In Indonesia, the most common purpose for URL shortening service is for hiding the referral URL that can be used to trick unsuspected victim and redirect them to a referral easy-but fake-money making site (along with their user-name as a referral).

Another bad purpose is for sending in an URL that contain scat website, malware website, download link with some bad application in it and even worse, a fake website that try to stole your user-name and password.

This nontransparent link can now be seen through a service called Real URL. So make sure to copy and paste any shorten URL through this page first to see the real URL.

Real-URL interface is not as good as either untiny.me or LongURL.org. But at least their service works when this article is written. Just copy and paste the short URL and then click “Get The Real URL” to start the extracting process.

The real URL will be revealed in no time. You can judge it by yourself whether the link is safe to go to or not. Or you can use another service to see whether it is safe or not by going to Web of Trust. Note that link generated from tweak.tk still can’t be extracted at this point by any of the services mentioned above. RealUrl already supported e7t.us.
