My Webware of Choice -Part Two-

Here comes Part Two of My WebWare of Choice :

1. Video Sharing

  • Youtube. I have to admit, I’m not a really big fan of video sharing site since my internet connection is extremely low. What I mean with low is this :
    SpeedTest.net Result
There, you happy ? I’m fed-up with people from around the world complaining how slow their internet connection in this lifehacker article. And I’m paying as much as these guys paid for, 30 Bucks++/Month (In case if you are wondering : This is DSL ala Indonesia). If only YouTube, Vimeo or MetaCafe have a much more lower (ELD = Extremely Low Definition) videos….. NOTE : A faster packet is available for 300 USD++/Month for a mere “up to” 3 MBps connection. Yeah..

2. URL Sharing

  • is.gd. My favorite among all. Simple interface, not over-bloated with features and fast. Those three things already sold me to is.gd.

3.  Web-Based Protection

  • VirusTotal. This is absolutely not your desktop anti-virus replacement. VirusTotal act as a second opinion for file you’ve downloaded from the wild web (pun intended). I love their service since my desktop anti-virus is known for it’s massive false-alarm.
  • scr.im. Scr.im  helps you to reduce the number of spam going in to your email address by masking your email address with an address that redirect to scr.im page for captcha verification. Not truly effective since real-human spamming can really get through, but at least it took them time (note that not only spammer, good guys that wants to simply email you have to go through this screening process too).  More about this later.

4. Job Post

  • Elance. I love this site from the very first time I placed my cursor on the Elance home page. Clean interface, fast and a very good category searching for either prospect employees or prospect employer. Guru is a nice site too. But the category searching is not as good and fast as Elance.

5. Online Distro

  • Cafepress. Not really a distro anymore since Cafepress also provided Books and CD publishing. Cafepress can help selling your design on T-Shirt, Mugs and many more by just sending in your design. Nice and clean interface and also fast. This is a must for those who wants to sell their designed T-shirt but do not have enough capital for T-Shirt printing.
  • Zazzle. I love Zazzle. Basic membership provide you with a highly customizeable shop, unlike Cafepress. Serve the same purpose as Cafepress, Zazzle’s only drawback is it’s massive loading time.
